So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity;
for God loves a cheerful giver. II Corinthians 9:7
The tithe is a tenth of our income that we give to the work of the Lord. The first mention of the tithe is in Genesis 14:18-20 where Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek the priest. The Law of Moses establishes the giving of the tithe in Leviticus 27:30-32.
In the New Testament, the Lord Jesus mentions the tithe as something that we should continue along with the other important duties of the law such as justice, mercy and faithfulness (Matthew 23:23). The Apostle Paul further mentions that our attitude towards giving should be cheerful and generous (2 Corinthians 9:6-13).
With the tithes and offerings, the church is able to be God's hands extended to our community locally through helping families experience life transformation and in the Amazon in Peru through church development and community impact.
What is the difference between tithe and offering? Tithe is giving a tenth of your earnings back to the work of God. An offering, or generous giving, is over and above tithe. Offerings are something that you search your heart and decide to give beyond the tithe, but not in place of the tithe.
Remember it is the Lord who gives you the power to get wealth. It is God’s will for you to be blessed and prosperous. Give and it shall be given unto you. Proverbs 22:9, “He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed, for he giveth of his bread to the poor.”
Romans 8:17 declares, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.” When God is your father, all His wealth belongs to you. He has promised to take care of His children. All that He has is yours, and all that you have is His. God has given you His very best, will you give Him yours?
